The presentation of the award recipients followed a keynote address by Don Eberly, an internationally recognized expert on community and economic development and advisor to two Presidents on civic leadership. His latest book, The Rise of Global Civic Society: Building Communities and Nations from the Bottom Up, was named on the leading works in 2008 that drive the discussion. The book details the rise of philanthropy, volunteerism and public/private partnerships in contributing to global political and economic development.
